Political scientist
Anthony Downs
wrote an article
for the Public Interest:
“Up and Down With Ecology:
The ‘Issue-Attention Cycle”,
published in 1972.
Downs described a five-stage cycle
through which political issues pass.
Climate change / global warming
is a political issue, backed up by
almost no real science.
The first stage:
Self-proclaimed experts and activists
call attention to a potential problem.
The second stage:
Activists frame the issue
as a "crisis":
The media publish scary stories
that readers love, and politicians
use the "crisis" to expand
government power to fight the "crisis".
The third stage:
People gradually realize
solving the "crisis" is difficult:
At best it will be very expensive, and
at worst there is no feasible solution.
The fourth stage:
The public starts to lose interest,
especially when the "crisis" is
far off in the future, and there are
no easy solutions.
Climate change
is in Stage Four.
The fifth stage:
The issue becomes low priority
and public interest is sporadic.
Climate change will not move
into Stage Five, in my opinion,
until after national leaders attack,
and refute, the junk science,
as I do in this free
'public service blog'.
as I do in this free
'public service blog'.
So far Trump and Scott Pruitt (EPA)
barely addressed the junk science
that supports "climate change"
( one unproven assumption,
on top of another, with lots of
government bureaucrat scientists
playing computer games
to make wild guess average
temperature predictions,
that have been wrong for 30 years,
so far, because they are based
on almost no real science at all ! )
For climate change:
Leftists politicized the issue,
accepted the junk science
without question, and
narrowed the range
of 'acceptable responses'
to windmills and solar cells,
which are
intermittent,
unreliable,
expensive, and
subsidized,
sources of energy.
Windmills and solar cells
can't compete with
the only feasible, clean,
reliable, competitive
energy source
that could replace fossil fuels:
Nuclear energy ... which
the foolish leftists oppose too !
