Scientists at the Scripps Institution
of Oceanography recorded
the warmest sea surface temperature
taken in 102 years off the school’s pier
in Southern California.
The Ellen Browning
Scripps Memorial Pier
is used for boat launching
and a variety of experiments.
Scripps researchers recorded
a high of 78.6 degrees Fahrenheit
on July 30 after a string of daily
sea surface temperature records
off the pier.
The researchers were quick to claim,
“This is how global warming will play out.”
according to a press release.
The Los Angeles Times piled on:
Their Sunday lead story
was in the print edition:
The leading paragraph,
quoted the Scripps Pier
reading as 78.8 degrees F.,
(not the correct 78.6 degrees F.),
... and failed to mention
the record it broke
was 87 years old,
set in 1931,
... and failed to mention
the record was broken
by a mere +0.2 degrees F.,
... but the L A Times
proudly proclaimed
that the new record
is proof of ‘man-made’
global warming.
These measurements
are taken from a pier
near the shoreline,
so must be influenced
by local weather events.
by local weather events.
The daily records
broken this year
were very close
to the readings
from 87 years ago.
I strongly doubt
a thermometer
used in 1931
was accurate
to the nearest
tenth of a degree F.
But even if the
1931 thermometer
was perfectly accurate,
and its measurements
were exactly the same
as the 2018 thermometer,
a +0.2 degree C. difference
is very small, harmless,
within the measurement
margin of error,
and NOT proof of
man made global warming !
Our planet has been warming
for 20,000 years -- 100% natural
global warming for at least 19,920
years out of the 20,000 years.
There is no scientific evidence
that natural warming stopped
in 1940, and suddenly humans
controlled the average temperature
though carbon dioxide emissions
-- that is an unproven assumption !
( and that unproven assumption
IS used as the foundation
of the coming
global warming catastrophe
fairy tale ).
