Here in Southeastern Michigan,
where we live, there are lots
of electric vehicles on the road
with the brand name "Tesla".
The number surprises me,
since General Motors,
Ford and Fiat-Chrysler
have headquarters here,
and lots of their employees
and relatives live here.
For a few years, it seemed
that every Tesla I saw
was painted black,
which was appropriate,
because those charged
with electricity from DTE
Energy were actually
"64% coal cars"
(2017 data).
The latest information
from DTE, included with
my latest electric bill,
says they were still
"64% coal cars" in 2018.
Here's the DTE fuel mix
for 2018, unusually high
in coal, and an average
for five midwest states:
DTE Energy U.S. Midwest***
2018 as of 10/25/18
Coal 64.2% 45.5%
Nuclear 18.7% 26.6%
Natural Gas 8.7% 20.2%
Oil 0.2% 0.4%
Hydroelectric 0.2% 0.9%
