Georgetown,
Texas electricity
Texas electricity
100% from
"renewables"
... is actually
fake virtue
fake virtue
signalling,
to please
leftists.
to please
leftists.
The city claims
50,000 residents
are all buying
"100% renewables"
sources of
their electricity.
They pay for
gigawatt hours
of renewables,
but it’s just an
accounting trick.
They are still
connected 24/7
to an electric grid,
maintained by
the usual
fossil fuel power
generators.
There's natural gas
fired backup power
available at all times.
They don't pay
for any battery
storage system,
or new electric
transmission lines,
going to new
wind farms,
or new solar
panel sites.
Various sources
of electricity
are commingled
on the main
Texas grid.
Georgetown’s
customers
have been paying for
all-renewable energy
since April 2017,
based on a standard
in Texas, it said.
The city incorrectly
projected the price
premium customers
would be paying.
Fracking made
natural gas
much cheaper
than they
had projected,
and the price
never recovered.
So electricity prices
have been relatively
low in Texas.
The monthly
electricity bill
for an average home
in Georgetown,
that uses
1,000 kWh per month,
was $144.35 in 2019,
up about +22%
versus 2018.
I'm sure the residents
are happy about that !
