Reservations for the 2021 Electric Mustang Mach-E Are Full

I've leased many Mustang GT's,
with 5.0 liter V8 engines,
from the mid-1980s
to about 2000.

Some were convertibles.

All were fast -- 0 to 60 mph
in the 5.5 to 6.5 second range.

All had rumbling dual exhausts.

All were fun.

But only for short trips.

One time
we drove the
Blue Ridge Parkway
in a bright blue
metallic paint
Mustang GT
convertible.

That long trip, with the
rumbling exhaust noise,
eventually became annoying,
and that was my last Mustang GT.

About twenty years later,
with me over 65 years old,
a quiet electric "Mustang GT"
sounded like more practical fun.

Especially the
2021 Mach-E GT,
Performance Edition
with an estimated
459 horsepower,
from two
electric motors.

It can do
zero to 60 mph
in 3.5 seconds.

That would be a lot of fun.

But the price for the Mach-E Performance Edition will be about $60,000 ... which is very expensive for an impractical "muscle car", which I assume still has an unusable rear seat.

The Mach-E comes with a standard 240 miles range, but long-range models can be extended up to 300 miles.

Reservations for the Mustang Mach-E "are officially full."

"Other models, like the Mustang Premium Edition, and the GT, are still available for pre-order."

Ford debuted the new 2021 electric Mustang in late 2019, and then began taking $500 refundable reservations.

"$500", and "refundable", make the reservations mainly a publicity stunt.

Carbonized Gray (ugly) is the most popular choice, with 38% choosing it, which I find hard to believe -- a really boring color for a Mustang.

But then we drive a black Toyota Camry, and a white Toyota Camry, so our "fleet" is really boring.  But very reliable.

Grabber Blue Metallic 35% (ugly), and Rapid Red 27% (OK), are the number two and three colors for reserved Mustangs.

More than 80% of US customers are reserving Mach-E, with an Extended Range Battery.

About 55% are opting for all-wheel drive.

Almost 30% of US customers are choosing the Mach-E GT.

More than a quarter of all reservations are coming from California.

Here in Oakland County, Michigan, where we live, our DTE Energy uses about 2/3 coal to generate electricity -- double the national average -- so any electric car charged here would be a "2/3 coal car".

Could a "2/3 coal car" be better for the environment than a conventional gasoline engine ?

I doubt it.

I haven't had a speeding ticket in at least 25 years -- how boring !

A car that does zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds would be so much fun.

If I had one, maybe I could drive too fast, and get another chance to outrun the police, like I did twice as a teenager, avoiding speeding tickets.

But I would never BUY or LEASE an electric 2021 "Mustang", because the car is so ugly, and does not have the wide, low look of a typical Mustang.

It looks more like a generic small SUV, in my opinion, with Mustang-like taillights, and a horse emblem in the grille.

I might rent one for a weekend, for my first drive in an all-electric car, but the pictures below do not appeal to me at all !
