After Tesla's
Gigafactory 3
in Shanghai,
that caused
a short seller
squeeze
in the stock
(price went up),
Tesla is now
building their
Gigafactory 4
in Gruenheide,
outside of Berlin,
Elon Musk is going
where his strongest
competitors, BMW
and Volkswagen,
are located --
Germany !
No other
foreign
automaker
has done that
in decades.
It does not make
financial sense !
Because of
Germany’s
strong unions,
high wages,
and high taxes.
The new
assembly
plant includes
a sheet metal
stamping plant,
paint shop,
( typical of any
modern auto plant )
and also a seat
manufacturing
facility.
The Tesla
building will be
2,440 feet long.
Local Mayor
Arne Christiani
told Bloomberg:
“It gives young people
with a good education
or a university degree
the possibility to stay
in our region —
an option
that didn’t exist
in past years.”
The huge "Tesla"
investment
turned the town
of 8,700 people into
a major attraction,
with proposals for
shopping malls and
apartment buildings
coming to local
officials every day.
Ask Tesla's
Buffalo factory
how that
worked out
for the city!
But building the factory
requires Tesla to clear
"thousands of trees".
Dozens
of protesters
organized a
"Forest Walk"
to protest against
Tesla's tree removal
activities at the site.
The protesters were
dressed in yellow vests,
similar to the recent
"Yellow Vest Movement"
in France.
“We will also
raise objections
to Tesla’s
environmental
impact assessment
in the normal
legal way,”
one protester said.
Protest group
spokesperson
Nadine Rothmaier
said:
“I think every citizen here
has his own topic.
For some, it is nature
and the forest or people.
The factory will also
emit pollutants
that pollute the region.”
Tesla says it intends on
replacing the all trees
that it cuts down.
