Last Fall,
an article
in TIME
magazine
was on
“How climate
change is
clobbering
kids’ health”.
TIME says:
“the microscopic
particulate matter
produced by
burning fossil fuels”
is damaging
their lungs.
The science
supporting
that claim
is very
questionable
But the science
is settled for
indoor particulate
matter -- indoors
is where people
spend 85% to 95%
of their time.
Epecially dangerous
for families in poor
countries, who burn
wood and dung
indoors for cooking
and heat.
That fills indoor air
with microscopic
particulate matter.
Of no interest to TIME.
How about
cheap coal
to replace wood
and dries dung ?
Never mind that
-- coal is evil --
has CO2 emissions !
Trump pulled out
of the Paris Accord,
TIME said, and
“other nations
are observing it
only spottily,
global temperatures
are continuing to rise
– and the health
of children
is being clobbered
in the process.”
Of no interest to TIME:
The Paris Accord,
if every nation,
including the U.S.,
met its commitments,
the computer models
say it would make
a global temperature
difference so small
nobody would notice.
TIME says:
“One of the most
damaging examples
is the microscopic
particulate matter
produced by burning
fossil fuels.
The study
[from Harvard,
in the Lancet ]
found that more
than 90%
of the world’s
2.2 billion children
are exposed
to particles
at concentrations
above the safe limit
defined by the
World Health
Organization.”
The science behind that
claim is very questionable.
And 90% of children ?
That makes no sense !
Where are the 10%
who are not affected ?
Not on this planet.
“While the average
global temperature
has risen 0.2˚C
compared with a
1983-2005 baseline,
the average heat
in big cities and
other population
centers has
risen 0.8˚C.”
So what?
As cities grow,
horizontally
and vertically,
they get warmer
( Urban Heat Island Effect, or UHI) .
TIME was not interested
in mentioning that UHI
is not caused by CO2.
And measurements
to the nearest
tenth of a degree
are false precision.
If warm weather
is such a big problem,
then why do so many
people want to live
in cities?
TIME claims:
“Rising
temperatures
are reducing
the duration
of the
growing season
for three
key staples –
maize, rice
and spring wheat
– slashing harvests
and increasing
the risk of famine
in vulnerable
developing
countries.”
TIME just made up
those
"alternative facts".
Rising
temperatures
extend the
growing season,
and extend
growing areas
to higher latitudes.
Rising
temperatures,
and more CO2
in the air,
both increase
plant growth.
Thousands
of studies
prove that.
I try to
summarize
one or two
recent studies
every month
on this blog.
The past decade
had the greatest
one decade
reduction
of poverty
in history.
Of no
interest
to TIME,
however.
TIME only wants
to report bad news
speculation about
the future climate.
