The full question is:
Can a libertarian (like me), or a conservative, or a Republican, change the mind of a socialist Democrat on the subject of climate change?
I regret to inform you the answer is "no".
That would be equivalent to convincing a born again Christian that there is no god.
Socialist beliefs can't be changed, except to be moved further left.
Socialists / progressives / Democrats are like trained parrots who can not be retrained.
Many coming climate crisis skeptics and "lukewarmers" believe leftist minds can be changed by presenting data, facts and logic.
They are fools.
That strategy has been attempted since the 1980s, and it has failed again and again.
Continuing that strategy, and hoping for different results, meets the definition of insanity.
You can NOT use science and logic to change beliefs that were not formed with science and logic in the first place.
You have to remember that harmless global warming has been in progress for about 45 years, since the mid-1970s.
So people with up to 45 years of personal experience with harmless global warming, have either not noticed, or don't care.
They are willing to believe the NEXT 45 years of global warming will be a disaster -- completely different than the past 45 years of global warming.
Almost every adult today had been taught that in school, or heard it from their children.
For the past 30 years, or more, schools have been places where students are taught what to think, but not how to think.
If you can't change socialist / Democrat minds, is there anything you can do to shut them up, when they start hectoring you about climate change, or "carbon pollution"?
Here in Michigan, we can say: "The land you are standing on now was covered with a thick ice glacier 20,000 years ago."
"By 10,000 years ago, all the ice had melted."
"Do you think THAT global warming was caused by people driving cars burning gasoline?"
You have just presented the subject of natural causes of climate change -- something that does not exist in their "climate emergency" world.
The IPCC dismissed natural causes of climate change as "noise" back in 1995 -- no proof -- it was merely asserted, and they moved on to blaming humans.
You can watch the steam come out of a leftist's ears as he, or she, or it, thinks of a response ... and then suddenly changes the subject.
The other topic that works well is predictions.
The coming global warming crisis in nothing but a prediction, not reality.
You can point out that predictions of a coming climate crisis began in 1957, with oceanographer Roger Revelle, Al Gore's favorite scientist.
That was 64 years ago .
So where is the climate crisis predicted every year for the past 64 years?
Why is a climate crisis always coming in 10 years, but no climate crisis ever shows up?
While they are thinking, and steam is pouring from their ears, add this fact:
We've all been living with global warming for the past 45 years, and I have enjoyed the slight warming -- how about you?
If none of this works to stop a leftist from pontificating about climate change, electric cars, solar energy, wind energy, recycling, or "climate deniers", there are only three other choices:
(1) Remind them of some of the failed 1970 Earth Day predictions -- 100% have failed -- so just memorize one or two that interest you (see my next article), or
(2) Find smarter friends, or
(3) Hit them upside the head with a rolled up Sunday New York Times newspaper ... and then use the newspaper to line the bottom of your bird cage, or cat litter box, where it belongs!
