Sunday afternoon climate rap: The claim that man made global warming (AGW) is a hoax ... is a minority claim that fights the evidence

It has come to my attention that there are more than a few climate change skeptics who believe:  "AGW is a hoax as mankind is too small and insignificant to effect global warming."

That is a view of a small minority of climate change skeptics, and I  believe the belief is very likely to be WRONG.

First of all, air pollution that blocks sunlight affects the climate, but that is mentioned by climate alarmists ONLY when it is convenient.

 Such as to explain the global cooling from 1940 to 1975, as CO2 levels rose.

They claimed air pollution blocked enough sunlight to more than offset the warming effect of CO2.

That explanation ignores the global warming trend that started in about 1975.

Air pollution did not suddenly fall out of the sky in 1975 -- when a cooling trend reversed to a warming trend.

in fact, air polluting emissions, such as SO2 emissions, were not down very much from the late 1970s peak, even by the year 2000. 

Ignoring man made air pollution effects for now:

AGW is a theory based on lab science that began in the late 1800s.

It is a reasonable assumption that what happens in a lab infrared gas spectroscopy experiment, using artificially dried air in a closed system, will apply to the atmosphere in a similar way.

But there should less of a greenhouse effect from CO2 in the atmosphere, due to overlapping infrared energy absorption wavelengths with the primary greenhouse gas, water vapor.

There is also a limit to the wavelengths for CO2 to absorb and re-emit before saturation, when no larger greenhouse effect would be possible as CO2 levels increased.

There is no way to measure the exact effects of CO2 in the atmosphere -- too many other variables affect the climate -- but a worse case estimate (by assuming CO2 caused all of the warming since 1975) still adds up to mild, harmless global warming. 

And there has been mild, harmless global warming for the past 45 years -- although that does not prove anything about CO2.

You might not have noticed that mild warming over 45 years, without so many hysterical leftists waving their arms and bellowing about a coming climate crisis every year, like neighborhood dogs howling when a fire siren goes off.

There was beneficial warming since the mid-1970s, especially for the people who lived in colder areas of the Northern Hemisphere, where, like everywhere else, the most warming was in the colder months, and at night.

There is a little science behind the climate change religion. 

There are lab experiments identifying CO2 as a greenhouse gas. 

And our planet would be unbelievably cold if there were no greenhouse gases to obstruct the planet's cooling process from upwelling infrared energy.

If you want to debate the climate alarmists, as if they would ever debate anything they believe, the best arguments are to point out:

-- Warming periods before 1900 could not be blamed on man made C02 (and that would be 4.5 billion years of warming periods)

 -- Very little, perhaps 10%, of the global warming from 1910 to 1940 could be blamed on CO2 (assuming the haphazard temperature data collection methods in that period were accurate)

-- Global cooling from 1940 to 1975 was accompanied by large increases of CO2

(as reported in the mid-1970s, before massive "revisions" made decades after the actual measurements have sharply reduced that inconvenient warming to near zero)

-- Global warming since 1975 has been mild and harmless

-- Every predictions of climate doom since the late 1950s has been wrong

-- Climate computer games have consistently predicted a global warming rate more than double what actually happened, and never got more accurate over the past 42 years (based on the average climate model, that reflects the government bureaucrat climate science consensus, and UAH satellite temperature data since 1979)

-- The water vapor positive feedback theory, that allegedly triples the claimed greenhouse warming effect of CO2 alone, is not seen in temperature observations, or in historical temperature reconstructions (a positive feedback should have caused runaway global warming, and ended almost all life, but that has never happened)

-- Leftists have a long history of lies and deceptions, most recently the fake Trump Russia Collusion hoax.

SUMMARY:

There are more than enough arguments against the climate change religion (a climate crisis is coming, so you must do as we say without question) 

 

... without resorting to a declaration that AGW from adding man made greenhouse gases is impossible, or a hoax. 

 

Or that there is no greenhouse effect at all.

That argument, I'm sorry to report, is no better than the 64 year old climate alarmist claim that a climate crisis is coming ... now called a climate emergency ... as the ACTUAL climate on our planet gets better with every decade.

 

Long term climate beliefs, based on always wrong, wild guess predictions of climate doom, that can never be falsified, are unlike real science, but just like any other religious belief. 

We are very lucky to be living in a mild warming trend during an interglacial period (The Holocene interglacial, within the Quaternary glaciation, also known as the Pleistocene glaciation -- an alternating series of glacial and interglacial periods during the Quaternary period that began 2.58 Ma (million years ago), and is ongoing) within the Quaternary ice age)

Some people are never happy. That would include pesky leftists on the subject of the climate. They act like old fogies who complain about the weather and their aches and pains every day, when not trying to chase children off their lawns by waving their canes.
