Efforts to refute CAGW (rapid, dangerous manmade global warming) with science have failed since 1979, when global cooling scaremongering reversed to global warming scaremongering. The reason is very simple. CAGW is not based on science. CAGW is merely a prediction, that has been wrong since 1979. There is some science behind AGW, but AGW is not CAGW,
AGW (manmade global warming) on which CAGW "skeptic" scientists and the IPCC generally agree on, is the only science: There is a greenhouse effect. CO2 is a greenhouse gas. Adding CO2 to the atmosphere should impede Earth's ability to cool itself by a small, unknown amount. A warmer troposphere will hold more water vapor, which would be a positive feedback to CO2-caused warming. And the effect of CO2 diminishes as the concentration of CO2 increases. That's the science.
There can be arguments about the exact effect of CO2 alone, but they can never be settled. They can't be settled because there are at least ten other climate variables whose exact effect can't be measured. Meaning that the exact effect of CO2 also can't be measured.
One could assume all warming in the past 172 years, since 1850, was caused by CO2, as a worst case estimate. That would be +1 degree C. in 172 years as the CO2 level increased +48%. That worst case AGW estimate proves that CO2 has been harmless.
Unfortunately, CAGW, which is roughly AGW x3, is based on an unproven theory. That theory is that a strong water vapor positive feedback will multiply the effect of CO2 alone by about 3x (actually 2x to 4x). That unproven feedback theory is supported by all government climate scientists -- they could not get their government jobs or grants if they didn't believe in CAGW.
That means government authorities will have a strong voice for "the CAGW science". Outside scientists, at best, could debate government scientists to a draw.
The government bureaucrat predictions of climate doom get the benefit of the doubt simply because they are scientists in positions of authority. Predictions are not science. But they are the basis for CAGW. Not science.
Since predictions of climate doom are the basic for CAGW, not science, a debate on the science will fail. To attack predictions, you must attack the people who make the predictions. Predictions of CAGW have been wrong since 1979, so there is plenty of ammunition.
I understand that ridiculing wrong predictions is not something scientists are likely to do. However, climate skeptic scientist Richard Lindzen, Ph.D., who I respect, has recommended that strategy in recent years. And he has been implementing that strategy in his writing and speaking.
Many climate skeptics use at least a little ridicule and sarcasm in their writing. They don't go far enough. Climate realists must focus their attacks the authorities who make the CAGW predictions to discredit the CAGW predictions.
The "My science is better than your science" strategy will not work. It has failed since 1979. CAGW is a belief based on faith. It does not exist in reality. It is very difficult to change a belief based on faith. But It's not so difficult to refute about 50 years of wrong climate predictions.
We have had 47 years of mild harmless global warming since 1975. No CAGW. Every global average temperature compilation shows that CAGW has not happened. And we have almost eight billion first-hand witnesses to up to 47 years of global warming. No one was harmed. People in Siberia have warmer winter nights. That's a climate emergency?
Although there had been global warming since 1975, there was rising CO2 and no warming from 1940 to 1975. And in the past eight years, there was rapidly rising CO2 levels and no warming (UAH data).
So not only was there no CAGW since 1979, when predictions of CAGW began, but it appears there was no AGW for the past eight years too. That means today is an ideal time to refute CAGW predictions of climate doom.
Not with science -- that won't work. But by ridiculing the government bureaucrats who make always wrong climate predictions. The past eight years with no global warming have been the worst period for CAGW predictions since 1979. Act now -- global warming could resume next year.
