In the past two centuries, especially after 1940, humans burning those fossil fuels have returned some of the CO2 back into the atmosphere.
Adding CO2 to the atmosphere is good news -- CO2 is plant food -- and our planet is greening again!
We have 400 parts per million of CO2 in the air now -- a logical goal would be to reach 1,000 ppm -- that's the CO2 level that greenhouse owners enrich to, at their own expense, to accelerate plant growth.
What the climate change "believers" actually believe in, is catastrophic manmade global warming (CAGW), now described with a meaningless, generic name: "Climate Change".
Most "Climate Change" believers think what they believe in, is that carbon dioxide is a pollutant endangering the Earth, because that's what liberal government bureaucrat "scientists" tell them.
The most sophisticated believers / "warmunists" might say computer models predict dangerous global warming, which will be unstoppable if the average temperature of our planet is allowed to rise over +2 degrees C.
I've been on this planet long enough to ignore "predictions" of the future ... especially when "THEY" claim a coming catastrophe ... that can only be prevented if everyone does as "THEY" say, without question.
When "THEY" are politicians, supported by government bureaucrats, the ONLY way to "prevent" a catastrophe seems to be more government power, more government regulations, and more government spending!
You must read and understand what THEY believe, before you can discredit their predictions of doom now.
Their advantage is that its impossible to completely refute predictions without waiting 50 or 100 years!
The purpose of this "public service" blog is to refute CO2 scaremongering.
The best way to start is a simple explanation of what the warmunists actually believe about climate history.
After reading what they believe, it's astonishing that the warmunists would be taken seriously by anyone.
They are anti-science crackpots, whose wild guess predictions of doom resemble religious beliefs.
No evidence can ever refute their beliefs -- their beliefs are not "falsifiable" like real scientific theories are.
It is sad that leftists work so hard to generate global hysteria using wild guess predictions of a future climate catastrophe -- especially predictions that have been wrong for 30 years so far.
Warmunists also work hard to keep the general public in the dark about climate science.
"Believers" are shocked when I tell them the globally averaged surface temperature has remained in a one degree C. range for 137 years -- from 1880 to 2017.
"Historical climate" = very pleasant climate in recent years -- slightly warmer at night than 100 years ago.
Hysterical climate = CO2 scaremongering by warmunists / leftists, who want to micro-manage world energy use ... and everything else!
Most believers / leftists have only a superficial understanding of the "official" leftist climate change beliefs.
Some have memorized a few talking points, and they love the appeal to authority phrase: "97% of scientists say ... ".
The "97%" claims are from completely bogus surveys -- in reality at least half of all scientists think CO2 is harmless -- you can only get to the 97% number by ignoring nearly all of them!
Of course what scientists believe is not automatically correct -- in fact, almost everything scientists have believed in the past has eventually been proven to be wrong -- from slightly wrong, to completely wrong.
Science is never settled -- anyone who say "science is settled" knows nothing about science.
Failed politician Al Gore says "the science is settled" all the time -- he is scientifically illiterate.
The only real science behind "climate change" beliefs are some simple lab experiments that suggest a doubling of CO2 levels in the air may cause a harmless +1 degree C. average temperature increase.
At the current rate of CO2 increase -- +2 parts per million (ppm) per year -- a CO2 level doubling would take 200 years.
At +3 ppm a year, a CO2 level doubling would take 133 years (also harmless).
There are some government bureaucrat "scientists" who have been hired to play climate computer games, and make scary, but wrong, climate predictions.
They've done that for the past 30 years ... along with repeatedly "adjusting" the historical temperature data they control, to show more warming!
Up to half the minor warming since 1880 is from "adjustments" to the raw temperature data.
Also, thermometers from the 1800s tended to read low, exaggerating the minor warming since 1880.
