Remembering the 1970s Global Cooling Scare

The 1970s global cooling scare 

eventually morphed 

into the even more popular 

global warming scare.

Both are baloney 
... malarkey 
... banana oil !

(pronounced "banana earl", in Brooklyn)

Baloney for one simple reason:
No scientist has any idea 

what the future climate will be!

It could be warmer.
It could be cooler.
Runaway global warming,
is extremely unlikely.

Scientists know a scare 
leads to lots of money 
for scientific studies.

The result of, 
the global warming scare, 
was a huge amount of money, 
spent (wasted) studying,
completely harmless,
global warming!

So far "global warming" 

consists of a harmless
+1 degree C. warming

since 1880.

That claim is based on 

a combination of 
half rough surface measurements, 
affected by economic growth,
near the thermometers,
and half wild guesses,
for areas with no thermometers,

with a margin of error, 

of at least +/- 1 degree C.

The measurements are so bad,
that NASA-GISS actually claims,
areas of Africa with no thermometers,
have record heat, 
based on their wild guess,
of what the temperature there would be,
if a thermometer was placed there!

Read the above sentence again,
because that is junk science,
at its worst!

The Southern Hemisphere 

had very few measurements 

before 1900, and few measurements,
from 1900 to 1940.

Even today, half our planet's surface 

has no thermometers, 

so pro-warming "scientists" 

get to wild guess the temperatures 

in those areas.

But their stolen eMails 

tell us they can't be trusted.

Yet they are the people 

allowed to fill in the gaps 

with wild guesses (aka infilling).

I say "wild guess",
because their infilled temperatures,

can never be verified, or falsified.

They completely ignore,
weather satellite temperature data,
because it does not show,
as much warming as surface data,
in spite of the fact,
that very little infilling is required,
for satellite data (just small areas
around both poles). 

Government bureaucrat "scientists" 

believe exactly what they were hired, 

and paid, to believe (a coming 
climate catastrophe). 

And other "scientists" know,

they won't get government grants 

unless they 'believe' in a

coming climate catastrophe.

As a result, too many scientists 

have predicted a coming 

global warming catastrophe 

for the past 30 years.

You'd think after 30 years, 

people would stop listening to them.

I started studying climate change 
in 1997.

It took me only a few weeks, 

to realize no scientist, 

had any idea, 

what the future climate would be,

and that is still true today.

After 30 years, 

of wrong climate predictions, 

never mind the mysterious switch, 

from global cooling to global warming, 

the so-called scientists, 

are getting more money than ever.

And the government bureaucrat "scientists",
seem to be in a competition,

with leftist environmental activists,
for who can write, 

the scariest global warming fairy tales,

 ... even as we live in,
the most pleasant climate,

for humans in the past 4.5 billion years!

DETAILS:

Until the late 1960s, scientists believed 

there had been four recent peak glaciations 

(with much more ice than we now have

floating in the Arctic, and sitting on Antarctica).

New dating technology later revealed 

eight cooling / warming cycles

in the past 700,000 years. 

The last 2.5 million years 

was described as an ice age, 

with some brief warm periods 

called  ‘interglacial epochs’. 

The warm interglacials 

came on a 100,000 year cycle.

In the 1970s (and today), 

Earth was in an interglacial 

called the ‘Holocene’, 

that was about 10,000 years old.

The global cooling scare, 

was the false claim, 

that the pleasant Holocene,

was about to end.

By 1961 historical climatologists

agreed that 20th century warming 

from 1910 to 1940, 

primarily northern mid-latitudes, 

had ended in 1940. 

There was global cooling 

from 1940 to 1975.

Global cooling was considered 

to be a natural climate change

 -- not caused by humans.

The year 1972 happened to have, 

an unusual number, 
of extreme weather events.  

On December 3, 1972, 

geologists George Kukla, 
and Robert Matthews, 

sent a letter to Richard Nixon, 

warning about deteriorating global climate.

Nixon was told cooling, 

in the Northern Hemisphere, 

could be the start of,

the expected climate shift, 

out of the Holocene. 

That letter eventually resulted, 

in the first coordinated climate research, 

in the US, and later at the United Nations. 

Few meteorologists were involved, 

in the 1970s global cooling scare,

 -- it was promoted by scientists, 

but was not as popular, 

as the current global warming scare.

During the 1960s, 

atmospheric scientists lobbied ,

for funding for coordinated climatic research. 

In the late 1960s, 

the Global Atmospheric 
Research Program (GARP) ,

was established,
to coordinate atmospheric research, 
mainly to predict the weather.

In 1978, a US National Climate Act passed, 

leading to a National Climate Program Office, 

(under NOAA), and an inter-agency 

National Climate Program Policy Board. 

The Policy Board 
switched the climate concern, 

from global cooling, 
to global warming. 

The US lobbied the United Nations, 

and its World Meteorological 
Organization (WMO), 

for a world climate program. 

Robert White had been the head

of the US delegation to the WMO. 

White formally approached the WMO, 

with the US proposal, 

at a time when the WMO,
had been ignoring global cooling. 

The WMO established, 

an Expert Panel on Climatic Change. 

In 1976, the Expert Panel, 

released an ‘authoritative statement’, 

that downplayed concerns about global cooling. 

The Expert Panel, 

organized the first World Climate Conference, 

to launch the World Climate Program. 

That Conference included much concern, 

about a carbon dioxide warming threat.

But the World Climate Program, 

refused to address carbon dioxide. 

In 1983,  Executive Director, 

of the UN Environment Program, Mustafa Tolba, commissioned the first international CO2 study.
 (SCOPE 29).

In 1985, Mustafa set up, 

the Villach Carbon Dioxide Conference, 

to promote an international consensus, 

on global warming.

In 1986, Mustafa sent a letter, 

to US Secretary of State Schultz, 

with the Villach CO2 Conference Report attached.

That Report claimed, 

there was a ‘scientific consensus’, 

that a government policy response, 

to global warming was required. 

At the 1987 World Meteorological Congress, 

the US requested another assessment, 

of the global warming problem, 

by an intergovernmental panel. 

That led to the UN's Intergovernmental 

Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 

established to prove a popular conclusion: 

Humans burning fossil fuels 

were causing  global warming.

The IPCC was not set up, 

to study natural climate change,
or to advance climate science.

The IPCC was given,

the man made CO2, 
= dangerous warming conclusion, 

and then told, 
to provide scientific back-up,

for that conclusion 
( starting with a conclusion,
is backwards, biased science).

So far the "scientific back-up"
is computer climate "models",
of a climate change process,
no one understands well,
so it is no surprise,
the computer games (models),
made grossly inaccurate predictions,
for the past 30 years,
and the IPCC also uses,
the usual leftist defense,
for anything they believe in:
"Because we say so !"

The computer games fail,
to make good climate predictions,
because they are based on the myth,
that CO2 controls the average temperature.

Published historical temperature data***,
show CO2 and average temperature,
had three different correlations,
in a 75-year period:
Negative (cooling) from 1940 to 1975,
Positive (warming) from 1975 to 2000,
No correlation (flat temperature trend),
  from 2000 to 2015.

*** Historical temperature data,
receive frequent, arbitrary "adjustments",
that almost always lead to MORE
global warming. The fraud is unbelievable!
