The Manhattan Battery
tide gage now has
a co-located
Continuous GPS
Reference station
attached to the same structure,
and NOAA CORS is tracking
vertical land movement there
— estimated for the 3.5 years
of data available, at about
minus 1.35 mm per year
(downward vertical movement).
That is 1/2 to 1/3
of the total change
in relative sea level
at the site.
The Battery is mounted
to Manhattan’s bedrock,
not a pier in mud,
which makes it one of
the steadier tide gauges.
(sorry I had previously
posted the Atlantic City,
New Jersey chart
by accident --
I added the
Manhattan chart
on February 4
-- not much
different, actually)
