What is renewable energy use?
All forms of renewable energy accounted for about 10%
of US energy consumption in 2015.
Wind only 1.9%
Solar only 0.6%
Many people think solar and wind are the major forms of renewable energy.
They don't know biomass, hydroelectric and geothermal were over three-quarters of total renewable energy sources, while wind and solar were under one-quarter.
EIA classifications show that of the 10% total energy consumption in 2015 was classified as renewable:
(1) biofuels are 49% (of the 10%)
(mainly wood and biofuels, plus some biomass waste)
(2) hydroelectric was 25% (of the 10%)
(3) geothermal was 2% (of the 10%)
(1), (2) and (3) add up to 75% (of the 10%)
Which means wind and solar energy
were 25% (of the 10%)
