This blog, based on real science,
celebrates our wonderful climate
with more CO2 in the atmosphere,
which is 'greening' our planet,
just like CO2 enrichment systems
benefit greenhouse owners.
The current CO2 level
is about 400 ppm
-- at least 1,000 ppm
is required to obtain
optimum plant growth
of "C3"plants used for food.
If the added CO2
causes any warming,
which is an assumption,
not a fact,
the warming since 1940,
when man made CO2
started ramping up rapidly.
has been mild, and beneficial !
Global warming since 1940 has been
less than +0.08 degrees C. per decade,
which is a harmless rate of warming,
especially because actual warming
was mainly in the colder, high latitudes,
mainly in the coldest six months
of the year, and mainly at night
(aka 'warmer winter nights' ).
No one with sense would want
that global warming to stop !
But adding CO2 to the air MUST
be done with modern pollution controls.
Without modern pollution controls,
the benefits of more CO2 in the air
would be more than offset by adding
too much real pollution to the air.
Nowhere is this real
environmental problem
more evident than in
Chinese and Indian cities !
Note the air pollution
near a Chinese coal-fired
electric power plant,
in the photo below:
The US Senate voted on the
Green New Deal recently
-- 57-0 against it --
with 43 smarmy Democrats
(including Bernie Sanders)
voting “present”, instead of
putting themselves on record
on whether they favored the GND.
Meanwhile, China making
a mockery of the Paris Accords:
Green campaigner CoalSwarm
suggests 259 gigawatts
of new coal capacity
are under development
in China, equal to the entire
US coal generating capacity.
Researchers used
satellite photos
to examine construction
at many locations.
China has chosen
to greatly expand
coal power production
( now 64.7% of Chinese electricity generation )
while snubbing nuclear power
( now only 3.9% of Chinese electricity generation ).
Even the New York Times
has been forced to admit
that China is openly lying
about its Paris Accords
compliance:
China, the world’s leading emitter
of greenhouse gases from coal,
has been burning up to 17% more coal
a year than the government previously
disclosed, according to new data.
The sharp upward revision
in official figures means
that China has released
much more carbon dioxide —
almost a billion more tons a year,
according to initial calculations,
than previously estimated.
China’s low regard for reducing
fossil fuel emissions continues
in spite of the nation’s
excessive smog.
Instead of curtailing
urban polluting,
China has chosen
to build massive
"air purifiers"
in its cities.
An experimental tower
328 feet high
( over 100 meters )
in northern China,
is called the world’s
biggest air purifier,
by its operators,
and it has brought a
noticeable
improvement
in air quality:
Despite claims it “can run”
on solar energy, the tower
most likely uses electricity,
primarily generated with coal !
China criticizes developed countries
for not doing enough to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions,
and provide money to help
poor countries do the same.
Meanwhile, China is funding coal
power plants across the world !
China financed more than
a quarter of all coal plants
announced outside the country
last year, according to a new report,
putting its clean energy image
at risk, as Chinese institutions
fund coal-fired projects
in emerging markets.
Chinese institutions last year
provided $36 billion of financing
for coal plants outside the country,
26% of the 399 gigawatts
of such plants planned,
or committed, last year,
according to a report published by
the Institute for Energy Economics
and Financial Analysis (IEEFA),
a US-based non-profit.
Chinese bankers
and project planners
like coal-backed projects
because they are cheap.
While they are restricted
by Chinese pollution, and
emissions targets, at home,
they are free to fund
coal-backed projects
abroad.
Meanwhile, coal power plants
are in a rapid decline in the US,
as the shale revolution has
caused a rapid rise in
natural gas-fired plants.
This has also come at the
expense of nuclear power
– by far the largest source
of carbon-free energy in the US,
( some “expensive” nuclear plants
have closed, or plans were made
to shut them in the near future ).
So, the US withdrew from
the Paris Accord while China
stayed in, and criticized Trump’s exit.
But the US has done a better job
of reducing its CO2 emissions
than China has !
The Paris agreements are ineffectual.
to be polite, even if you believe CO2
levels control the average temperature
( I can't believe that, because there was
no global warming for 2/3 of the period
from 1940 through 2018 -- measurements
are much more important than theories ! ).
Meanwhile, our very clueless
"environmentalists"
attack harmless CO2,
the beneficial staff of life,
while ignoring real pollution ,
very visible in the air of most
large Chinese (and Indian) cities !
