Wind turbines
are an eyesore.
And an expensive,
unreliable source of power.
The blades are bird and bat
shredders, and are noisy too.
The very large diameter blade
models produce infrasound
that travels for mile.
Some people are very susceptible
to infrasound, including me!
My last article on wind turbine
infrasound is here:
PROPERTY VALUE STUDY:
SUMMARY:
The Germany-based
RWI Leibniz Institute
for Economic Research
shows that wind turbines
can lead to falling prices
for nearby homes.
The value of a house
one kilometer away
from a wind turbine
drops an average
of -7% percent.
At a distance of eight to nine
kilometers, wind turbines
no longer have any effect
on property prices.
Old houses in rural areas
are hardest hit -- the loss
in value within the
one-kilometer radius
can amount to -23%.
Houses on outskirts
of cities are different
-- they hardly lose value
at the same distance
from a wind turbine.
Perhaps disturbances
of the landscape,
and the turbine noise,
are less noticeable there,
than in rural areas.
DETAILS:
RWI evaluated almost
3 million sales offers
on the Immoscout24
online portal between
2007 and 2015.
The effects
on real estate prices
were estimated using
a hedonic price model
that takes into account
the exact distance
between the wind turbines
and the single-family houses
in question, as well as
many properties
of the houses,
and their
socio-economic
environment.
