Which Climate Change Category Do You Fit In ? -- Deniers, Skeptics, Lukewarmers, Warmers, Alarmists, Einsteins, or Dingbats ?

This article
took more time
to write than any
other article
on this blog !

Even though It's
not that complicated,
and my cat did not
eat the papers !

It's just hard to
categorize people.

I started this article
a few years ago,
before I changed my
almost 20 year-old
"policy" of never
reading comments
after online climate
science articles.

A few years ago,
I realized I was
one of the few
people who thought
past global warming
had been good news
for people, and more
CO2 in the air was
good news for plants,
based on real science,
not climate models !

That's when I started
reading the comments,
after climate science
articles, just to see if
anyone else agreed
with me.

Based on those
comments, I realized
my three climate
change categories
had to expand --
because climate
science beliefs
were all over
the place.

The fact that
so little is
known about
climate change
physics,
encourages many
different beliefs.

I had six categories,
as of yesterday.

This morning
I thought about
the changes
to climate beliefs,
since I began
reading about
climate science,
as a hobby,
in 1997.

The science has
barely changed.

But in 2018,
a seventh category,
which I previously
reserved ONLY for
"perfesser" Al Gore,
began expanding,
at an alarming rate.

I'm not sure
if seven
categories
are enough.

But I do know I fit
into the Skeptics
category, with two
exceptions:

(1)
I believe the
evidence clearly
shows that past
global warming
has been good news
for ALL PEOPLE,
not just "most people",
because I've not been
able to identify anyone
hurt by the mild,
intermittent, global
warming, since the
late 1600s, and

(2)
I believe adding CO2
to the atmosphere
has some warming effect,
rather than no effect.

That warming could range
from too small to measure,
up to mild, harmless warming.

"Too small to measure"
may be close to zero,
which the CO2 Deniers
believe, but is not zero.

Which  Climate  Change
Category  Do  You  Fit In ?

1
The  CO2  Deniers:

The science is wrong.

CO2 is not pollution.

CO2 does not cause global warming.

Adding CO2 to the air
'greens' the planet (good news)

2
The  Climate  Crisis  Skeptics:

The laboratory science tells us CO2
may have a global warming effect.

The amount of global warming
is unknown, but very likely
to be small, and harmless.

CO2 is not pollution.

Global warming has been
good news for most people.

Adding CO2 to the air
'greens' the planet (good news)

Temperature sensitivity to CO2
is likely to be in the range
from too small to measure,
up to +1.0 degrees C.
( "+1.0 degree C."
means +1 degree C.,
of global warming
is expected from
each doubling
of the CO2 level
in the atmosphere )

The  Lukewarmers:

The science is settled,
but most scientists
over predict global warming.

CO2 is pollution.

CO2 causes global warming.

Temperature sensitivity to CO2
is likely to be in the bottom half
of the IPCC's estimated range
( from +1.5 to +3.0 degrees C. ).

Note:
The IPCC's +1.5 to +4.5 degree C.
range is from an estimate
created in the 1970s,
that never seems to change.

The use of fossil fuels should be reduced.

4
The  Global  Warmers:

The science is settled.

CO2 is pollution.

CO2 causes global warming
that could be dangerous
in the long run.

Temperature sensitivity to C02
is likely to be in the middle
of the IPCC's estimated range
( +3.0 degrees C.).

The use of fossil fuels
should be
significantly reduced.

The  Climate  Alarmists:

CO2 is dangerous pollution

CO2 causes dangerous
global warming,
in the upper half of the
IPCC's estimated range
( from +3.0 to +4.5 degrees C. ),
including a strong positive
water vapor feedback
that doubles or triples
the warming effect
of CO2 alone --
making global warming
very dangerous
in the long run.

The use of fossil fuels
should be
significantly reduced,
as soon as possible.

6
The Climate Einsteins

Climate science is far from settled.

Past global warming has been harmless.

The future climate can not be predicted.

The correct answer to many
climate science questions
is: "we don't know that yet"

7
The  Climate  Dingbats:
( the buffoons and
     village idiots
of climate science )

The world is going to end
in ( pick a number ) years !

Examples:
-- Al "The Climate Blimp" Gore,
-- Alexandria "Occasionally Coherent".
-- Greta "Thunderberg", and
-- The Extinction Rebellion cult
