Scientists recorded five significant ice ages throughout the Earth’s history, with periods of global warming in-between, and we live in one of those warm "interglacial" periods, For that we should be thankful. And we live in an intermittent, beneficial warming trend since the mid-1700s. For that we should be even more thankful.
Since 1979, when weather satellites were able to collect near global temperature data in the troposphere, we finally have decent estimates of where the warming has been. Note that there was no surface warming measured with far less accurate surface thermometers from 1940 to 1975. So 1979 through 2020 satellite data captures almost all the global warming since 1940.
Satellite measurement include far fewer estimates than surface temperature measurements filled in with wild guess numbers by government bureaucrat "scientists" who WANT to see lots of global warming, just as they predicted decades ago. Wild guessed missing data can never be verified. This is called "infilling", and is never reported by the mainstream media, because wild guessing of some, or all, monthly temperature data in almost every "surface grid", would make you suspicious. Some surface grids in Africa are claimed to have "record temperatures. There are no thermometers there! Just a new wild guess warmer than the old wild guess.
And anti-science zealots like Al "the climate blimp" Gore claim "the science is settled", which is NEVER true of science. On the other hand, Al did "invent the internet', as he once claimed, and got extremely rich investing in alternative energy companies that received government subsidies and loans to survive.
The greenhouse effect takes place in the troposphere, so that is the best place for pure measurements. it it seems warmer nights in Alaska are one of the biggest changes since 1979. And that is called an existential climate threat by some fools with the motive to scare you and control your life. Here I call it good news for people living in Alaska!
REAL CLIMATE CHANGE
The known major ice ages:
Huronian (2.4-2.1 billion years ago),
Cryogenian (850-635 million years ago),
Andean-Saharan (460-430 mya),
Karoo (360-260 mya) and the
Quaternary (2.6 mya-presen)
All the dates below
are approximate, and
there's no "consensus"
on the specific dates,
not that a consensus
means anything
in real science.
The last glacial melting,
and sea level rise
of 129 meters
( 400 feet ),
began about 14,000
to 20,000 years ago,
interrupted by
a sudden cooling
from about 10,000 to
8,500 BC, known as
the Younger-Dryas.
Warming resumed by 8,500 BC.
From 5000 to 3000 BC average
global temperatures reached
their maximum level during
our current Holocene period,
roughly 1 to 2 degrees Celsius
warmer than today ( called the
Holocene Climatic Optimum).
Cooling from 3000 to 2000 BC.
Warming from 2000 to 1500 BC.
Cooling from 1500 to 750 BC.
Warming from 750 to 150 BC.
Cooling from 150 BC to 300 AD.
Warming from 300 to 600 AD.
Cooling from 600-900 AD,
causing the Nile River
(829 AD)
and the Black Sea
(800 and 801 AD)
to freeze.
Medieval Warm Period,
from 1100 to 1300 AD:
-- Vikings established
their settlements on
Greenland and Iceland.
-- The snow line in
the Rocky Mountains
was about 370 meters
above current levels.
The Little Ice Age.Cooling
from 1300 to 1775 AD:
Cold weather in Iceland
from 1753 and 1759
caused up to 25%
of the population to die
from crop failures, and
famine. The coldest
decade of the Little
Ice Age was believed
to be the 1690s, period
of very low sunspot counts,
called the Maunder Minimum,
which means a period
of lower solar energy.
Michael Mann is the "inventor" of the fake "hockey stick" global average temperature chart, falsely claiming global average temperatures before 1900 were nearly flat as a board. Professor Mann and the IPCC doctored the evidence, used misleading data from a few Southwestern US tree rings not useful for global temperature reconstructions. Instead of the large majority of other temperature reconstruction that showed the contrary -- multi-hundred year warming trends followed by multi-hundred year cooling trends.
When the tree rings did not show global warming after 1950, Mann truncated the tree ring data, and secretly attached modern thermometer data without telling anyone what his chart really showed. He pasted on modern temperature records showing steady increases after a pre-industrial flat trend that never happened.
In the chart below, the corrected version is in blue. And if the relatively short time frame in the graph below is put in a longer 12,000 year historical framework, the whole "hockey stick" shape disappears entirely.
