The chart below shows the surface global average temperature (with seasonal variations removed) of the earth for the past 169 years, in Kelvin degrees. The global compilation is from Great Britain (hadCRUT).
It is a companion to the NASA-GISS compilation of the surface global average temperature chart, in Fahrenheit degrees, on this blog's home page (use web view to see it on smart phones) for the past 136 years.
I'll skip the usual lecture about how surface temperature calculations can't be trusted before World War II, especially before 1920, when there were very few Southern Hemisphere measurements in the "global" average temperature, and a lot of wild guesses.
The global average surface temperature is 287.0K ± 0.4 percent
That's only a 0.4 percent variation over 169 years
Wherever you live, a temperature variation in any 24 hour period is likely to be at least +/- 20 percent, from the median temperature of that day.
So why should people worry about so little surface global average temperature change in 169 years? They should not worry, they should be happy.
