U. S. Droughts and Floods
The number,
and severity,
may increase
dramatically
for a brief period
of years,
at some locations,
but then conditions
return to normal.
For example:
Nebraska has
a long history
of major flooding
– 1935, 1936, 1940,
1941, 1945, 1950, 1951,
1962, 1963, and 1978.
Serious flooding
occurred in Spring
2019, in the U.S.
central states.
For much
of the country,
it was a cold
and wet winter.
Many of the winters
before the floods
were among the
coldest in the record.
U.S. flood damage
was sharply down
over the 70 years
before 2019.
