NOAA climate alarmism -- January 2020 was not as cold as usual in Russia -- so how is that bad news ?

The National Oceanic
and Atmospheric
Administration
    ( NOAA )
claims that
January 2020
was the
hottest January
on record for the
global average
surface temperature.

As usual,
NOAA fails to
explain that
ALL global
temperature
compilations
(starting in 1880)
were made
DURING
a 300+ year
warming trend,
that began
in the 1690s.

So, record highs
are EXPECTED
regularly, until
that 300+ year
warming trend
ends !

The January 2020
Climate Assessment
Report, released
by NOAA’s
National Center
for Environmental
Information
    ( NCEI )
asserted very
unusual warmth
from the Russian
border with Poland,
into Siberia.

No other
"hot spots"
anywhere else !

The map below
shows NOAA
land and water
temperatures for
January 2020:

The entire planet
seems to be covered
in the map above,
even places in Africa
where there are
no thermometers !

Bureaucrats
get to wild guess
a lot of temperatures
for surface "grids"
( 5 degree latitude
            by
5 degree longitude )
that are missing
some weather
station data,
or have no
thermometers
at all !

Most grids are
likely to have
at least one
weather station
missing data,
for at least
one month.

There have been
months where
surface grids
with no temperature
data at all, in Africa,
were claimed to have
 "record temperatures".

That's science fraud.

The July 2019 map below
(land only) shows gray
where a surface grid
had no temperature
station data at all
for that month:

US  TEMPERATURE
The contiguous
United States
wasn’t even close
to a heat record
in January 2020.

UAH  SATELLITE  DATA
Measured in the
troposphere, where
greenhouse gas
warming occurs.

For January 2020,
UAH shows
a couple of
warm areas,
including one
over Russia
that looks
nothing like
the surface
temperature
map above.

For UAH, the
January 2020
global average
temperature
equaled the
warmest
January
 ( 2016 )
since records
were first kept
in 1979.

CENTRAL  ENGLAND
TEMPERATURE ( CET )
The longest temperature
series in the world,
representative of the
central part of the
island of Great Britain.

January 2020 was
the 11th warmest
January in that
CET series,
with a mean of 6.4C.
 - 1.1C cooler than the
warmest January
in the CET record
    ( 1916 ),
with a mean
temperature
of 7.5C.

For January 2020,
NOAA is saying
that much of
central Siberia
was more than
+5 degrees C.
above normal !

Why would
Russia
be so much
warmer
than usual,
compared with
the rest of
the world ?

That warming pattern
is not typical
of global warming
from greenhouse
gases, but almost
anything is possible
for one month.

GOOD  NEWS
          or
BAD  NEWS ?
January is the
coldest month
of the year,
for much
of the Northern
Hemisphere.

No one in Russia
is concerned
about a January
warmer than usual
-- they celebrate
any warming !

January in Moscow,
for one example,
has a daytime
high temperature
that averages 20°F,
with average lows
of 9°F.

The Siberian city of
Oymyakon, Russia,
reached 88°F
below zero
 ( -66.67°C )
in January 2018 !

The big Russian
“hot spot”
in NOAA’s
January 2020
temperature map
actually shows
that Russia was
still very cold,
in January 2020,
but NOT as cold
as usual.

That's great news
for the people
who live there !

Warmer winters
in cold climates,
especially nights,
have been the
biggest change
to Earth's climate
since 1975.

Note to leftists:
 For many places
on our planet,
milder winters
are  GOOD  NEWS,
not an existential
crisis !
